Idea Blog (10-7-09): Camera Obscura

This past weekend, Jeff challenged to me work with creating sculptural elements and then photographing it. In essence, he wanted me to create what I would in photoshop or with a long exposure first and simply use the camera as a record. I had been noticing shadows more lately and how they are empty, little hollow worlds sometimes. So I put the two together and this is the result.

I think it looks like a high schooler trying to be artistic so I am abandoning that nonsense. After Penelope Umbrico's lecture, I realized this whole semester, I have been trying to create work solely based on a concept I do not have and do not understand. Well, I need to honestly just stop what I am doing and start creating the work that I want to make. I'll find the concept...I always do.
All of my entries today intertwine because the artist I wrote about on 'Monday' uses this tool in his work. By using this tool I am also incorporating the feedback that Jeff gave me. I will be building a camera obscura. I've been wanting to for quite some time and I figure, now is the time. So then, how am I going to use it? I am creating odd situations. They may be related, they may not. We'll see. Objects will not be of typical scale. I will be collageing, gluing, projecting and editing. They will be antiqued too. This is what I like and this is how I want to present myself to people so, its what I am going to make for my senior portfolio! I will update with photos soon!
I am excited...finally.
