"Great art, like many other greatnesses, is often the artist's ability to exploit a long series of accidents which occurred before he was born."
This quotation was in reference to discussing icon's. I was interested in seeing the correlation between photography and painting and the example used was Aphrodite. I've come more and more to think about the subject within my images, which I hadn't really done before. Prior to my meeting with Paul, I'd always just kind of been glad to shoot any model that was interested to posing. Now, I am learning that I need to find my subjects identity first and then find a model who fits that. I discussed this last week and have yet still continued to model for myself. Perhaps I am doing this not because it is only convenient but because I am trying to figure out myself through the pictures.
Since I spend so much time creating imagery that looks as if it was created in the past, why not consider an 'icon' that would most likely be in the time I am making. I hate to have yet another entry on "subject" and "character" but it is still an idea that I am trying to figure out. I still am thinking that it doesn't necessarily matter what the person's face looks like but I need to pay more attention to their styling. Basically, I need to make sure that my images are cohesive in theme!
That being said, I am exploring sculpture more and am focusing more on the structure. I want to construct nature out of nature and I am going to be spending a lot of time photographing my sculptural imagery.
Here is one the photos I took just because I liked that I put the leaf there, not necessarily the picture :)
