An amazing opportunity has developed in which for my prison writing class, we are required to do an activity project. We only have to get as involved as we feel comfortable but I see it as an opportunity to make a documentary project. At first I was thinking I could combine this assignment and my senior portfolio but I'd be afraid to have this as my senior port because I haven't been working on it long enough and I have no idea what would happen. There's been many times where I've had a project and its been 'eh, alright' but nothing I would want to do again. Anyway, what I plan on doing is attacking the issue that "63% of the homeless population in Richmond are ex-offenders." It'd be an editorial on maybe 6-10 homeless, ex-offenders. I would do this by shooting a black and white up close portrait and then have their own, brief handwritten account next to it.
But then I thought, how does this actually HELP the situation? So, I'd want to contact this organization that spoke to my class, Boaz & Ruth and essentially work with them to somehow use this project to raise awareness, or even give them the project and allow them to use it however once I leave Richmond.
Here are some people I've found that have shot prisoners before.
First three: (c) Luca Ferrari (my aesthetic is more in common with this series)
Last two: (c) Emiliano Granado
